The Free Classics Series

Free epublishing toolkit shows you how to publish your own free ebook or popular public domain classics using Free Software.

Initially, the Free Classics Library was a collection of public domain works that I created for my own reading pleasure. We now make them available, as a free downloadable ebook, in the TreePad™ and PDF (Portable Document Format) formats.

Currently, the majority of these free downloads are in the TreePad™ format (PC access only), however, most future additions, to the Free Classics Library, will be reissued in the PDF format, so that PC and Mac user can access them, alike. The TreePad™ format will only be used, if publishing in PDF is impractical.

eBooks created in the TreePad™ format can, normally, only be viewed on PC's (Sorry MAC users). It has a layout, similar to Internet Explorer, with excellent file compression capabilities.

The e-books' format and file size, will appear in brackets, after the authors name. Some files will be "zipped," to reduce download time, which necessitates you having a program to "unzip" it. You can download a free Zip/Unzip program, called FreeByte Zip (344KB), Here.

You will need the free TreePad™ Viewer, to view the TreePad™ ebooks and gain maximum reading pleasure.

You can download the Free TreePad Viewer and Acrobat® Reader®, for reading PDF ebooks, from the download section, on the right hand side of this page.

So, why go to all the trouble and then give them away, for free?

It would be a shame for Treasure Island, Sherlock Holmes, The Scarlet Pimpernel, The Count of Monte Cristo, Tarzan and so many, many more beautiful Classics to go unread. Besides, I love old books and I love electronic publishing!!!

Why for Free? Because they are freely available in the public domain. Problem is, most people don't know where to find them, and when the text files are downloaded, they are in a format that is extremely difficult to read.

Which leads me to a question. Have you ever considered epublishing your own popular or favourite, out of print, classic from the public domain? Maybe a complete collection of Sherlock Holmes, Shakespeare, or H. G. Wells? How about a library of children's stories or poetry. The possibilities are endless!

The Free Classics Library is there for your enjoyment, so why not nominate public domain works that you would like to see in the library!

Nominate your 3 titles from the "List of more Classic Titles in Process," to e-mail freeclassics@smarterpublishing.com. The Titles in Process are public domain works that are already in various stages of completion.

At least 3 of the Titles that receive the most nominations, during the month, will be published during the following month.

If you don't fancy any of the Classic Titles in Process, you may make three "wildcard" nominations and nominate public domain titles of your own choice (include authors name). I will use the "wildcard" nominations as a guide for future publications.
